Heparin is a naturally occurring glycosaminoglycan that acts as an anticoagulant by accelerating the inhibition of thrombin and Factor Xa by antithrombin III. High affinity heparin contains a specific pentasaccharide sequence required for binding to antithrombin. Useful for haemostasis mechanistic studies.
