Human Protein C Purified from Innovative Research has been purified from human plasma using salt precipitations and column chromatography. This is a frozen liquid buffered in 20 mM Tris-HCl/ 0.1 M NaCl/ 1mM Benzamidine/ pH 7.4, and a purity of greater than 95% as determined by SDS-PAGE analysis (total reduction when incubated with 2-mercaptoethanol). Also known as Factor XIV, Protein C is a zymogen that, when activated, helps to regulate anticoagulation, inflammation, and more. Key to this process is the ability of Activated Protein C (in conjunction with cofactors) to inactivate Factor Va and Factor VIIIa. Protein C is activated by Thrombin, and can be down-regulated by reduction in EPCR and/or thrombomodulin (either of which can be triggered by inflammatory cytokines) and may be up-regulated by Platelet Factor 4. Protein C is inhibited by Protein C Inhibitor.
