It also acts on p-nitrophenylphosphodiesters at pH 5.6-5.9. Bernardi, Biochem. Biophys. Res. Comm., 17, 573 (1971) describes a three stage degradation of native DNA by DNase II. One unit causes an increase in absorbance at 260 nm of 0.001 per minute at 25░C, pH 4.6 using highly polymerized DNA as substrate.
