Human, Rat and Mouse Renin and Antibodies

Renin is processed as a 406 amino acid precursor (45 kDa) containing a 23 amino acid signal peptide and a 43 amino acid propeptide that is released from renal juxtaglomerular cells in response to sodium depletion, decreased blood volume and blood pressure, and b-adrenergic stimulation. Renin initiates a sequence of steps that begins with cleavage of a decapeptide angiotensin I from renin substrate (angiotensinogen), an alpha-2-globulin produced in the liver (and other organs including the kidney) [1,2]. Angiotensin I is then converted into the octapeptide angiotensin II. This reaction is catalyzed by an enzyme called angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE),
